Το αλυσοπρίονο όμως σφήνωσε σε μία από τις κλάρες κατά τη διάρκεια της κοπής, με αποτέλεσμα το θύμα να αφαιρέσει την ζώνη ασφαλείας που φορούσε ώστε να το απελευθερώσει για να συνεχίσει τη δουλειά του. Δυστυχώς, εκείνη τη στιγμή η κλάρα υποχώρησε και έπεσε επάνω στο καλάθι, σπάζοντας ένα μέρος του τοιχώματος όπως επίσης, άλλα κλαριά αγκιστρώθηκαν στα ρούχα του θύματος… και τότε έγινε το κακό!
Ο 57χρονος, έχασε την ισορροπία του και έπεσε στο κενό, αφού πρώτα χτύπησε στο όχημα και στη συνέχεια κατέληξε στο έδαφος. Αμέσως, οι συνάδελφοί του έτρεξαν να τον βοηθήσουν και διαπίστωσαν ότι είχε χτυπήσει στα άκρα του. Κάλεσαν το ΕΚΑΒ, που έσπευσε στο σημείο και τον μετέφερε στο Γενικό Νοσοκομείο Κορίνθου. Η κατάσταση της υγείας του παρέμεινε κρίσιμη αλλά σταθερή έως τις 16:15 το απόγευμα που επιδεινώθηκε και στις 17:00… εξέπνευσε, σύμφωνα με πληροφορίες από εσωτερική αιμορραγία.
