Σύμφωνα με το ίδιο περιοδικό, η αφήγηση θα έχει πολλά χρονικά άλματα, κάτι που την απομακρύνει από τη γραμμική ιστορία του «Game of Τhrones».
Το βιβλίο
Η έμπνευση για τις νέες περιπέτειες στο σύμπαν του «Game of Τhrones» προήλθαν από το βιβλίο «Fire & Blood» («Φωτιά και αίμα» – στα ελληνικά κυκλοφορεί από τις εκδ. Anubis, σε συλλογική μετάφραση, από τον Απρίλιο του 2019) του Τζόρτζ Ρ.Ρ. Μάρτιν. Στη μεταφορά του, ωστόσο, στη μικρή οθόνη παρατηρήθηκε μια μικρή εμπλοκή με τους χαρακτήρες αφού αρκετοί από αυτούς είχαν πανομοιότυπα ονόματα, κάτι που θέλει υπομονή αλλά και τρόπο από τον θεατή για να τους διαχωρίσει. Σύμφωνα με το «Hollywood Reporter», υπήρχε η σκέψη των παραγωγών να αλλάξουν λίγο τα ονόματα ώστε να διευκολυνθεί το κοινό, όμως τελικά απορρίφθηκε η πρόταση αυτή αφού πρόκειται για μια σοβαρή σειρά, προορισμένη για ανθρώπους που σέβονται τον Ρ.Ρ. Μάρτιν. Ο ίδιος πρόσφατα έγραψε στο blog του σχετικά με τη νέα του τηλεοπτική δουλειά: «Σε όσους από εσάς αρέσουν οι σύνθετοι, συγκρουσιακοί, γκρίζοι χαρακτήρες (όπως εμένα), θα αρέσει αυτή η σειρά, νομίζω. Θα υπάρχουν πολλοί δράκοι και μάχες, σίγουρα, αλλά η ραχοκοκαλιά της ιστορίας είναι οι ανθρώπινες συγκρούσεις, η αγάπη και το μίσος, το δράμα των χαρακτήρων και όχι η δράση / περιπέτεια». Προσαρμοσμένα στους τόνους της εποχής θα είναι και τα λανθάνοντα μηνύματα της σειράς. Αφού μετά τα παράπονα για το αδικαιολόγητο γυμνό που είχαν πολλές σκηνές του «Game of Τhrones», τώρα το «House of the Dragon» θα έχει έντονα φεμινιστικά θέματα. Το ένα είναι πώς η πατριαρχία προτιμά να διαλυθεί παρά να έχει γυναίκα ηγέτη. Και μια παράλληλη αναφορά είναι προφανώς οι εγγενείς κίνδυνοι του τοκετού.
